Beyond everyday conversation, Cantonese is also used in more formal registers (such as news broadcasting). Proficient Cantonese speakers in Hong Kong are expected to read traditional Chinese characters accurately in Cantonese, meeting the requirements of various linguistic registers.
現時坊間並無相關測試可檢定測試者嘅粵音朗讀水平,粵音朗讀測試(Cantonese Read-aloud Test,簡稱CRAT)正係為咗填補呢個空缺,為有需要人士提供水平認證。However, there are currently no relevant tests to assess and certify one’s Cantonese reading-aloud proficiency. The Cantonese Read-Aloud Test (CRAT) has been developed to address this issue and to provide certification for individuals in need.
